Minister Avcı promoted new EIN

During his speech at the promotion meeting of the new Education Information Network (EIN) held at the Sabancı Teachers Home (Öğretmenevi), Minister of National Education Nabi Avcı said that the new network is the second version of the previous trial project.

212 thousand people have entered the portal at the beginning of project,  Minister Avcı reported adding that this figure recently rose to 8 million.

Minister Avcı said that especially the second version of the portal has formed an interactive space and went on to say, “In addition to teach our teachers and students how to use this portal, we also show them how to contribute as a producer. At first, teachers were doing this as amateurs; they have entered EIN and saw the educational material in it. Many of our teachers believed they were capable of doing the same and recorded their lessons with amateur cameras. They uploaded these to the portal. That’s when we saw the potential and skill of our teachers and when we decided to provide professional facilities for them. Within this framework, we decided to found 13 studios in 12 cities. We do not only offer infrastructure, we also teach techniques about producing content. We are expecting an extraordinary boom in the production.”

“EIN is a very tempting project“

Minister Avcı said the Minister of TRNC National Education Kemal Dürüst asked the Turkish Ministry to found a similar studio in the TRNC during Dürüst’s visit last week to Turkey, adding that, “In short, we are going to open 14 studios in 13 cities. Two months ago, we provided training to more than thousand teachers in Mersin. In other words, EIN is a very tempting project. This was what we wanted exactly. We believe that we have founded a good platform.”

Stating that the Turkish people are careful in mentioning  their successes, Minister Avcı said:

“But this is very important; we are doing some valuable projects. EIN is one of them. This is a project carried out by the whole nation. It is the biggest education portal. Not second but first of its kind in this dimension. Its content is multiplying so quickly that no other country can reach this figure. We are receiving some demands from foreign countries. We are going to become a content exporter. It is an open ended project and it will be profitable for our teachers and students.”

“There is a smear campaign against the Ministry of National Education”

Minister Avcı said that this meeting was held as the project was not promoted sufficiently  and added, “To be frank, there has been a systematic disinformation and smear campaign against the Ministry of National Education especially since the beginning of transformation process concerning the preparatory schools .”

Minister Avcı stressed that every innovation and project initiated by the Ministry of National Education are criticized with cliché words and went on to say that, “They are not just criticizing, it is a smear campaign. Especially since 15 days the number of news reports claiming that the Fatih Project has collapsed increased rapidly as we put an end to circulation of supplementary text books that allowed some circles to publish books with banderole. We have taken measures aiming at eliminating student’s need for educational institutions other than schools and supplementary courses during this transformation process. Major examinations are based on lessons thought at schools. All questions which could be answered by techniques learned in preparatory schools were removed from the exam texts and replaced with questions that could be answered by students who learned their lessons at school. This diminished the need for supplementary courses and text books. Supplementary text books were a part of private teaching institution scheme.”

“EIN spoiled the game of some circles”

Minister Avcı the Ministry has initiated two major projects for students who want to receive supplementary training and said, “One of them is the free supplementary courses provided at schools. There are supplementary courses about every lesson in 95 percent of our schools. 2 million and 600 students participated in these courses and 112 thousand teachers gave lectures last year.”

Noting that 4 million and 300 students have applied for supplementary courses this year, Minister Avcı added:

“When the number of students who want to have supplementary courses reaches 10 in any field, we offer free courses at schools. Moreover, there are all kinds of supplementary educational material in EIN. All these projects spoiled the game of some circles. This is why there is a systematic smear campaign against the Ministry of National Education. This is the reason of all the disinformation and smear campaigns. You may not know what the newspaper you are working in will publish two days later but I can tell what the parallel media organs shall write about our ministry in the days to come. This is why we want to promote EIN in detail and give the most effective answer to these smear campaigns.”

Following his speech, Minister Avcı recited Turgut Uyar’s “Cybernetic” poem.

“Since now, one million 437 thousand and 800 tablet computer sets have been distributed to students”

General Director of Innovation and Information Technologies Dinçer Ateş said during the presentation of the project that the FATİH project is not only based on distribution of tablets but also includes other components.

Noting that one of these components is EIN, Ateş said that connection infrastructure of 455 classrooms in 55 thousand schools have been completed while the Ministry is preparing to open a bid for 400 thousand connection tenders.

Ateş said that contents that shall be sent to schools won’t be useful until this connection infrastructure is not completed adding that, “These will be completed in a short period of time and this is the reason why some people have made wrongful claims that there is a delay in the Fatih project.”

One million 437 thousand and 800 tablet computer sets have been distributed to students

Noting that 304 thousand 435 hundred classrooms are furnished with interactive boards since Friday, Ateş said that the total number of interactive boards in all high schools reached 190 thousand and 185.

“Since now, one million 437 thousand and 800 tablet computer sets have been distributed to students. In 2016, the number of classrooms available for tablet computer usage as they are furnished with required infrastructure and interactive boards will increase. We will be distributing 2 million and 650 thousand tablet computers every year after this date,” said Ateş.

Ateş said that the Ministry will open a bid on November 9 for the content purchase worth of approximately 50 million Liras and added that they wish that Turkey will become a country that exports content to foreign countries.
